‘A Serious Man’ by the Coen Brothers.

Don’t ask me why, but for some reason I wasn’t really looking forward to the new Coen Brothers film. That’s changed after watching this remarkable trailer. Seemingly going for the darkly comedic tone of Fargo or Blood Simple, this trailer is a remarkable bit of advertising material focused on sound and abstraction. To paraphrase Barton Fink, all it seems to be selling is that Coen Brothers feeling.

I’m so excited about this. Focus Features will begin rolling out A Serious Man in the States on October 2.

  1. yup. i actually saw it this past weekend. it’s amazingly crafted, superbly funny, deliciously dark, at the same time sweet and nostalgic. the least violent/bloody of any of their films i’ve seen.
    loved it.
