‘World Cinema’ by Joel and Ethan Coen.

Great short film the Coens made for Chacun son cinema, the omnibus film that was produced for the 60th Cannes Film Festival in 2007. It’s been excised (not really sure why) from most of the DVDs that have been released).

This may actually be the most sympathetic treatment I have ever seen the Coens give their characters.

‘A Serious Man’ by the Coen Brothers.

Don’t ask me why, but for some reason I wasn’t really looking forward to the new Coen Brothers film. That’s changed after watching this remarkable trailer. Seemingly going for the darkly comedic tone of Fargo or Blood Simple, this trailer is a remarkable bit of advertising material focused on sound and abstraction. To paraphrase Barton Fink, all it seems to be selling is that Coen Brothers feeling.

I’m so excited about this. Focus Features will begin rolling out A Serious Man in the States on October 2.
